Project Management of Team Members

Public Price: Please contact us for pricing information.
GSA Price: N/A

Length: 2 day(s)

Project work is significantly different from other ongoing work efforts, yet most project team members are not adequately prepared to participate in them. Intense projects need the active support of all team members. This workshop provides team members with exposure to the minimum five core-skills which are essential in supporting the team and the project manager in any medium to large scale project. Participants gain exposure to approaches that are consistent with our practitioner’s workshops. Rather than from the perspective of the project leader, this workshop focuses on the team member’s point of view - why project management is essential, what their role in the project should be and how to provide the necessary project-related information to all participants.

Prerequisites:

This workshop covers the fundamental tools and techniques needed by team members of medium-sized to large projects: those lasting three to twelve months in duration. It can also be of value to beginning project leaders and their customers. While the content is not as "industrial strength" as our other programs, it presents supportive, compatible methods that can increase the effectiveness of anyone involved with project work.

Topics Covered Include:

Participants should be able to:

  • Describe the essential elements of a project (project variables); support rapid planning activities with a defined objective and scope definition.
  • Understand the purpose of a work breakdown structure to organize, plan and communicate project activities across the project. Describe the essential components of a work plan and understand the team member’s duties in the delegation process.
  • Understand the significance of estimating task effort and duration. Produce project estimates and the documentation to support them. Describe the use of estimating assumptions during the delegation and contracting process.
  • Produce task dependencies and develop a project Gantt chart. Understand the significance of project schedules and what they communicate.
  • Use a minimum-effort project tracking method that provides useful information. Determine what and when to communicate to other team members.
  • Develop a plan to implement the techniques to improve project and team effectiveness.
